I Have Tinubu's Ironclad Backing  As APC Chairman — Ganduje Tells Supporters Amid Suspension

By Damilare Adeleye

The former Governor of Kano State, Abdullahi Ganduje, has broken silence on his suspension from the All Progressives Congress in the state as the National Chairman of the party.

Recall that Ganduje was suspended for alleged corruption including allegations of bribery levelled against him by the Abba Kabir Yusuf-led Kano State Government.

Ganduje was suspended by the executive members of Ganduje Ward in the Dawakin-Tofa local government area of the State.

The legal adviser of the ward, Halliru Gwanzoe, announced the suspension while addressing journalists on Monday.

Gwanzo accused the former governor of gross misconduct and misappropriation of public funds during his administration in the state, adding that the suspension of the party national chairman was a unanimous decision of the members of the ward.

According to him, Ganduje could not clear his name amid corruption allegations that followed the 8-year administration.

Meanwhile, the ruling APC debunked the report of Ganduje’s suspension from the party and as the National Chairman of the party.

The party in a statement issued on Tuesday by its National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, said that news of the said suspension of Ganduje was a devious act of a group of impersonators of ward officials out to cause mischief and create confusion in Ganduje Ward.

Similarly, while reacting to the report of his suspension, Ganduje in a video where he addressed his supporters in Hausa language said that he met with President Bola Tinubu and that the president believed that what happened was mere propaganda.

He said Tinubu directed that his supporters should tell the Kano State government that the powers of the National Chairman of the APC were vested in him (Ganduje).

He said, “I had an audience with Mr President yesterday and explained what's going on. He, in turn, asked me to convey his gratitude to you all and to also tell you to exercise patience.

“I informed him that what happened was mere propaganda, which he also believed to be so. He also declared ironclad support for my position as the national chairman of the party.

“Therefore, without mincing words, he wants you to tell the Kano State government that the powers of the National Chairman of the APC is vested in Abdullahi Umar Ganduje.”

Meanwhile, on Wednesday, the Kano State High Court has granted an ex parte order restraining Ganduje as National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress.
