According to reports, Chabane, the owner of a French football club Angers, on Friday received a two-year jail term, with one year suspended, for sexually assaulting six female employees.

Chabane was tried in western France for sexual assault "committed by a person abusing the authority conferred on him by his position".

The 59-year-old, who denied the charges, was given "the benefit of the doubt" relating to a seventh case.

His lawyers said he would appeal the conviction.
